Writing New Email

Writing a new email in Outlook is simple. Press and hold down the Control key and hit the letter n. Type the email address of the person you are sending the email. It might be something like mickeymouse@mymail.com. Hit the Tab key until you are in the "Subject" box. Type a few words to let the person receiving the email know what it is about--DO NOT TYPE THE BODY OF THE EMAIL HERE!!! Hit the Tab key until you get to the body of the email. Type something like "Dear ___," and hit the Enter key two times. Type your message. Remember to keep to the point, and keep it short. People tend to not read all of a long email, and generally delete it. After typing your message, hit the Enter key two times and write something like "Sincerely," or "Your friend," and then hit the Enter key two more times. Type your name so the person knows who the email is from. Press and hold down the Alt key and hit the letter s to send the email. If you want to be extra sure your email has been sent, hit the F9 key one time and Outlook will force a "Send/Receive" all items. Do the following activity until you are quick and accurate. You can hit the F7 key to spell check the email before sending it. When you are finished move to the "BACK" link at the bottom of this page to move to the "Outlook Lessons" web page.

1. Open Outlook.

2. Press and hold down the Control key and hit the letter n to create a new email.

3. Release the keys.

4. Type the email address of the person you are sending the email.

5. Hit the Tab key until you are in the "Subject" box.

6. Type a few words to let the person receiving the email know what it is about.

7. Hit the Tab key until you are in the body of the email.

8. Type "Dear ____,"

9. Hit the Enter key two times.

10. Type a simple paragraph.

11. Hit the Enter key two times.

12. Type something like "Cordially, or Sincerely, or Your Friend,"

13. Hit the Enter key two times.

14. Type your name.

15. Hit the F7 key and spell check your email.

16. Press and hold down the Alt key and hit the letter s to send the email.

17. Hit the F9 key one time to force Outlook to send/receive all items.

18. Practice steps "2 through 17" above until you are quick and accurate.
